2025 Kids Can Catch: A Fun-Filled Ice Fishing Event in Alberta
The Kids Can Catch event in Alberta was a resounding success, bringing together families, volunteers, and eager young anglers for a day of ice fishing and outdoor adventure. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and organizers, over 120 participants had the opportunity to experience the thrill of ice fishing in a safe and welcoming environment.
A Community Effort
The event would not have been possible without the hardworking team of volunteers who took on various roles, including:
- Registration and check-in
- Setting up tents and distributing fishing gear
- Bait-bagging and ice hole drilling
- Mentoring young anglers and untangling fishing lines
- Serving hotdogs and refreshments
- Final cleanup and event wrap-up
Every contribution, big or small, made the event a success and helped create lasting memories for the kids who attended.
Participation and Challenges
A total of 205 people registered for the event, a slight drop from the original 219 registrants before the date had to be rescheduled. The cold weather during initial registration, the rescheduling, and the requirement for adult fishing licenses may have contributed to lower attendance. However, despite these challenges, the turnout remained strong, with 114 individuals either attending or signing up on-site.
When asked how they heard about the event, participants cited several key sources:
- Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) email notifications
- Returning from last year’s event
- Social media (Facebook and Instagram)
- Word-of-mouth referrals
These insights will help organizers continue to grow the event and attract more families in the future.
A Special Thanks to Our Sponsors and Supporters
A huge thank you to The Fishing Hole, whose support helped make this event possible. Special recognition goes to Paul Lee (Facebook) and Aidan Collins (Instagram), who were on-site assisting new and young anglers. Their enthusiasm and expertise helped ensure that participants had a positive and educational fishing experience.
