Supporting the Next Generation of Outdoor Enthusiasts: $1,000 Donation to OJ’s Outdoor Expedition Program

The Okotoks and District Fish and Game Association is proud to announce a $1,000 donation to support the Outdoor Expedition (OE) Program at École Okotoks Junior High School. This contribution reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering outdoor education, conservation, and responsible recreation in our community.

OJ’s Outdoor Expedition courses provide Grade 7 and 8 students with hands-on experience in outdoor survival, hiking, map and compass navigation, orienteering, and bushcraft. These lessons culminate in unforgettable backcountry expeditions within Kananaskis Provincial Park. The program also offers optional Standard First Aid certification, equipping students with life-saving skills.

With the success and popularity of these courses, École Okotoks Junior High is now looking to expand the program to include Grade 9 students. Our donation will help the school purchase essential equipment and materials needed for this growth, ensuring that more youth can benefit from meaningful outdoor education.

Beyond this initial gift, our association sees a promising opportunity to build a lasting partnership with the school. Future collaboration may include:

  • Annual or ongoing financial support
  • Guest instruction in bushcraft, conservation, and outdoor safety
  • Access to association resources such as land or gear
  • Joint youth-focused conservation initiatives

This initiative is a perfect fit for our mission. By investing in local youth, we are not only equipping them with practical outdoor skills but also nurturing the next generation of conservation-minded citizens.

We thank École Okotoks Junior High for their dedication to outdoor education and look forward to growing this partnership in the years to come.
