ODFGA is proud to be one of the clubs in Alberta that are supporting the Alberta Wild Turkey Program. The Alberta Conservation Association is leading this initiative, in which wild turkeys are trapped in BC and released in Southern Alberta. This year more than 180 birds are expected to be trapped, vet checked, and released. The donation made by the club helps offset some of the costs involved in this labor intensive endeavor.
All of the birds are individually identified with leg bands, and this year a few of them are being fitted with GPS transmitters to enable effective tracking of the birds and monitoring of the newly established populations.
A few of our members have attended one of the releases that took place early in February 2024, when 14 healthy birds were released by the ACA staff, including two hens that were carrying GPS transmitters. Representatives of other clubs and the Alberta Wildlife Federation were also present.
Kudos to the Alberta Conservation Association, the Alberta Wildlife Federation and all the clubs involved!

On February 17th 2024 the ODFGA hosted the Kids Can Catch event at the Chain Lakes Provincial Park.
We had an amazing turnout, with more than 250 people attending to try out ice fishing, many of them for the first time! The weather was about as good as it gets, being sunny, calm and +2°C.
The amazing support given by a good number of volunteers was critical in making this event a success.
Also a final thanks to our sponsors who provided volunteers, equipment, and supplies from the Alberta Conservation Association, Fresh Live Bait, the Okotoks & District Fish and Game Association, and the Calgary Fish and Game Association.
Have a great spring and I hope to see you out again next year!
We're happy to announce the two winners of the 2023 50/50 raffle were Junior N. and Dan M. both from Okotoks. Congratulations!
With 460 tickets sold, the grand prize was $1840 and the consolation prize was $460, leaving $2300 for ODFGA programs.
We'd like to thank our members who sold 50/50 tickets and our supporters who bought tickets.
The draw was made on Oct 11, 2023 at the Crystal Shores Beachhouse with multiple ODFGA members in attendance. The winning tickets were drawn by a non-member who had not purchased a ticket, per AGLC rules.
We had an amazing turnout at our Chain Lakes Kids Can Catch event on Feb 18,2023 with close to 200 people attending to try out ice fishing. Our volunteers were on hand to give out loaner rods, teach people how to fish, and hand out hot chocolate and hotdogs. A special thanks goes out to our volunteers that helped make this event happen and our sponsors the Alberta Conservation Association (ACA), Fresh-Live-Bait, and The Fishin' Hole.
